APA Bibliographic Style

 

What to call the bibliography page:  Reference List

 

Place in order by:  Alphabetical order by author’s names.

 

Some things to notice:

 

ü      Most of the information you need is on the back of the title page.

ü      Indent second line if the entire citation doesn’t fit on one line.

ü      Only first initial of author is given.

ü      Notice placement of parentheses and periods.

ü      Capitalize only the first letter of the name of a book.

ü      Type the name of the book in italics or underline if handwriting the bibliography.

 

 

Typical book citation:

 

Author’s last name, first initial. (copyright date). Title of book. Publishing city: Publisher.

 

Margolies, J. (1992). Hank Aaron: home run king. New

York: Franklin Watts.

 

Article from a book with an editor instead of an author:

 

Editor’s last name, first initial. (Ed.). (copyright date). Article title. In Title of book. Publishing city: Publisher.

 

 

Thompson, C. (Ed.). (2000). Albright, Madeleine Korbel. In Current biography yearbook. New York, NY: The H. W. Wilson Company.

 

Periodical (magazine or newspaper):

 

Author’s last name, first initial. (Publication date). Article title, Magazine name, volume (edition), pages inclusive.

 

Abbey, C. D. (Ed.) (2002, September). Rudolph Giuliani 1944-. Biography Today, 11 (3), 51-72.

 

 

 

 

Encyclopedia (with author, can be found at the end of the article)

 

Author’s last name, first initial. (Publication date). Article title. In Name of encyclopedia (Volume, pages). Publishing city: Publisher.

 

Nightingale, D. (2002). Aaron, Henry. In World book encyclopedia (Vol. 1, pp. 3). Chicago: World Book, Inc.

 

 

Encyclopedia (no author)

 

Article title (Publication date). In Name of encyclopedia (Volume, pages). Publishing city: Publisher.

 

Aaron, Hank (2002). In Encyclopedia britannica (Vol 1, pp. 5). Chicago:  Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc.

 

Website:

 

Name of website (Publication date).  Retrieved date, from exact address of website.
