Greek Newspaper

Greetings citizens from Athens and Sparta!  Your fellow Greeks are interested in knowing what’s happening around the Greek city-states.  You and a select group of trusted intellectuals have been assigned the task of creating a newspaper.  For your paper, each of you will be responsible for ONE of the following (you will decide as a group who will do what):

          *        1 article on sports/games (ex. Olypmics, bull jumping)

                   What happened at this event?  What were the sights, smells,

                   sounds?

          *        1 article on gods/goddesses of Greek mythology (ex. Zeus,

Aphrodite, Apollo).  What’s the story surrounding them?  What

are their strengths?

          *        1 article on an important figure (ex. Pericles, Homer, Plato,

Aristotle, Alexander, Pythagorus, Euclid, Hippocrates)

Why is this person significant?

          *        1 editorial on war (ex. Pelopennisian, Trojan, Alexander’s

conquests)

Each article must include:

          * The Who, What, Where, When and Why/How

          * Title and Date

          * Factual and accurate information

          * Correct Spelling and grammar

In addition, your newspaper must have 3 advertisements and 2 graphics.  Ideas for advertisements include: theater, sports, trading goods with others, military equipment, political events, art.  Ideas for graphics include pictures for articles.

Each advertisement and graphic must:

          * Be neat and colorful

          * Be appropriate for the Ancient Greece (no TV, or DVD’s etc.)

          * Have correct grammar and spelling

The newspaper will be given a grade for:

          *A clever title

          *Neatness

          *Legibility

          *An appealing layout (how it looks overall – Will people buy this

            newspaper based on quality of the look?)

In addition, you will each evaluate your own contributions to the project:

          * What you worked on specifically

          * How you helped your fellow group members

          * What you learned

          * What you liked most and least liked

          * What job you took to create a quality newspaper

                   **2 Copy editors (making sure the grammar and spelling is

    correct)

                   ** Layout editor (making sure the overall layout is appealing)

                   ** Task master (keeping everyone on task when needed)
